The module will look at a focussed overview of The Internet, before considering the role of Information Communication Technologies, and their relevance to the Hospitality Industry.
It will then consider how various networks have supported the development of collaborative partnerships, in business and the Hospitality industry. This leads into an investigation into the fundamentals of ECommerce, including the impact of CRS and GDS, the "mighty systems".
This external focus concludes with security issues and management.
The module then develops an internal focus around hospitality specific and hybrid systems designed to create competitive advantage with the Hospitality industry. These include a unit on Yield (or revenue) Management (YM)
Finally the issues and the future unit considers the technological issues and opportunities facing the Hospitality industry.
Provide the opportunity to develop an understanding of the design and planning of IT strategies used by hospitality service providers, and the context in which those strategies are used.
Discuss, analyse and critically review IT management strategies for competitive advantage used by range of organisations. You will also develop, evaluate and present strategic proposals for either case study or live brief scenarios.
The larning outcomes in relation to this module are mapped against those of the programme overall. The programme learning outcomes define the knowledge, intellectual skills and key skills that will have been developed by the end of this level of study. By the end of the module students should be able, in the context of this module, to :
1. Be able to comprehensively and critically analyse; using a range of techniques; key strategies used by service providers.
2. Be fully conversant with the applied practical and theoretical processes of developing management strategies
3. Examine and evaluate the implications of different strategic approaches from a local, regional, national and global perspectives as appropriate
4. Propose a coherent and professional strategic IT management solution; including the assessment of the success or failure of those strategies; and recommendations for alternative options.
