- Understand the origins and development of the hospitality industry
- Appreciate the importance of the industry within the national and international economy
- Examine the hospitality markets and the hospitality business environment

- Describe the business environment that hospitality enterprises operate in
- Identify the types of markets for hospitality services
- Review the markets and operating environment for an international hospitality enterprise

- Location and classification of hospitality operations
- Introduction to demand and supply of hospitality services
- Types of hospitality business organizations
- Hospitality specific legislation
- Role of government, agencies and hospitality organizations
