An understanding of cultural issues and differences of people at work and the underlying theories
As a result of studying this module students will have a clear understanding of :
- the most important researchers and writers of cultural issues of people at work (e.g. Hofstede, Trompenaars,
- how such theories inform human resource management policies and practices
- Knowledge of key writers
- The ability to research cross cultural sociological issues
- sources of comparative HR data e.g. ILO, EUROSTAT
- The ability to observe and to critically analyse organisations' approaches to managing in a multi-cultural context
- The ability to observe and to critically analyse work people's behaviour in a multi-cultural context
- The ability to develop human resource policies which recognise and address cross-cultural issues in a multi-cultural context.
- An introduction to the history of cross-cultural studies of people at work
- An appreciation of the application of such theories and findings to human resource practices
- Introduction to comparative data sources
